Youth arrested for possession of drugs near Ondipudur in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A video of painkillers and narcotics being dissolved in water and injected into the body in Ukkadam area in Coimbatore had gone viral across Tamil Nadu.
It was followed by an investigation by the Narcotics Prevention Police. The sale of ganja and narcotics continues unabated in Coimbatore and the Police Department is beefing up various measures to prevent the illegal sale and use of drugs.
Two youth were arrested and jailed for selling ganja and narcotics on Tuesday. Police said many youth in Coimbatore and its suburbs are addicted to drugs. Following this, the Coimbatore City Police are intensively patrolling and arresting people involved in the illegal sale and use of drugs. Police officials led by the Singanallur Police Sub-Inspector Baskaran were on patrol on Tuesday evening.
They interrogated a few youth who were standing suspiciously in a vacant lot in the Ondipudur area. When they answered contradictorily, the police checked them and found them to be in possession of ganja packets, pills and syringes. The youth were taken to the police station for questioning.
The suspects were identified as Muthukumar (21), son of Mahendran of Ammankulam area, Amman Nagar, Puliakulam, Gokulakrishnan (21), son of Daniel Raj of Ondipudur and Isravel (21), son of Muruganantham of Vallalar Apartment area. Police confiscated all the drugs that the youth were carrying, and arrested and jailed them.
