Saravanampatti Assistant Commissioner raises awareness among residents to install CCTV cameras to reduce thefts in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: The Saravanampatti Assistant Commissioner along with police officials raised awareness among the people in the Maniyakarampalayam residential area of Coimbatore about the need to install CCTV cameras to reduce incidents of thefts.
In Coimbatore, there have been ongoing incidents of planned burglary and chain snatching of women. To prevent this, the police have chosen to visit residential areas and explain the need to install a CCTV camera to prevent thefts from taking place.
The police officials held these awareness meetings on Tuesday evening at MRG Nagar, Maniyakarampalayam area and also at Nalukaval Estate, Sampath Layout, Tulukkan Estate, Bharathiar Road, 3rd Street, under the leadership of Saravanampatti Assistant Commissioner Arun and Police Inspector Kandasamy.
Assistant Commissioner Arun said, "You put in millions and build houses. The CCTV camera is the least expensive thing to install in a home. But we refuse to focus on that. Those who may be involved in theft incidents will refrain from choosing that area first because of the CCTV camera. The public must cooperate with the police. Only then can theft incidents be prevented. As soon as a new person walks on the streets in the countryside, elders in the area will start enquiring about the person. In big cities like Coimbatore, no one bothers about people who roam on the streets, due to their busy lifestyles. If newcomers appear suspiciously on the streets, report it to the police immediately," urged the Assistant Commissioner.
He further added, "When a woman leaves the house and go to work, she may tell her husband that she has hid the house key under the shoes outside and ask him to take it from there when he comes for lunch. People around note these things and easily steal. Even these small things that we overlook can cause big issues." He went on to suggest different types of awareness to ensure we are vigilant. Sub-Inspectors and several others including the Chief Constable of the Saravanampatti Police were present.
