Physically-challenged man crushed to death by car on sidewalk in Coimbatore; Identity of man unknown
Coimbatore: A physically-challenged man sleeping on the sidewalk in Coimbatore was crushed to death by a speeding car. Varadarajan (57), the son of Palanisamy from Peelamedu was driving a car on Geetha Hall Road opposite Coimbatore railway station on Tuesday evening. The car collided onto the sidewalk and crushed the physically-challenged man head-on and critically injuring him. Varadarajan reportedly took the injured man in his car to the Coimbatore Government Hospital but doctors who examined him declared that he was brought dead.
Following this, the Coimbatore East traffic police arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation in which it was identified that the 60-year old man who diedhad been a physically-challenged person who had been begging in the same area and living on the sidewalk. No details about him are known. A case has been registered against Varadarajan and further investigation is underway.
