1050 kg of ration rice seized and two men from Kerala arrested near Pollachi
Coimbatore: Saravanan and Subhash, both hailing from Kerala were arrested by the East Police for trying to smuggle 1050 kg of ration rice in a luxury car to Kerala, near Pollachi's Suleeswaranpatti.
The East Police received a tip-off that free ration rice was being smuggled to the state of Kerala at ration shops under the public distribution scheme in the Suleeswaranpatti area near Pollachi.
Following this, the police who had been engaged in vehicle inspection in the area stopped a luxury car and searched the car. They found 1050 kg of rice stored in 21 bags and weighing 50 kg in the luxury car. The police then confiscated the rice that was being smuggled and arrested the two men, identified as Saravanan and Subhash.
The men are currently being questioned in connection with the smuggling of rice and the first phase of the investigation revealed that the ration rice collected in Pollachi area was being smuggled to Kerala in the luxury car.
