Farmers in Coimbatore protest with ploughs condemning the Karnataka government's decision to construct a dam at Megadattu across Cauvery river.
Coimbatore: In protest against the Karnataka Government's decision to build a Rs. 9000 crore dam across the Cauvery river in the Megadattu area, Tamil Nadu farmers protested carrying ploughs across Tamil Nadu condemning the Karnataka government for beginning the construction of the dam. Many political parties, organizations and farmers have condemned the Karnataka government for depriving Tamil Nadu farmers of their livelihood and rights.
As part of this, the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Union staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore District Collector's Office chanting slogans against the Central and Karnataka Government. The farmers also accused the Karnataka Government of cheating Tamil Nadu farmers and depriving them of their livelihood and said that the Central Government should intervene in the Megadattu issue and stop the construction of the dam.
They also said that the protest would continue until the Karnataka government abandons the construction of the Megadattu dam which has angered Tamil Nadu farmers.
