Sub-Collector and Trainee Collector inspect Valparai
Coimbatore: It has been raining heavily in the Valparai area of Coimbatore district for the last 20 plus days. The heavy rains intensified further for two days and flooded the Vazhaithottam River, Koozhangal River and Chinnakallar Dam in Valparai area. Normal life of public has been affected due to the rains.
Pollachi Collector Thackeray Subham Nantevu Rao and Trainee Collector Saranya inspected the flood protection and protection of people in times of natural calamities. They inspected Government Hospital and Maternity Hospital at Valparai. They listened to the needs of the people there. It was reported that the blood bank to the hospital, the doctors at the operation theater, radiologist, the health staff, cooks, and the night guards were understaffed and patients suffered due to personnel shortage in the hospital.
They then inspected the Valparai Boys High School premises to see if there were any facilities such as toilets, water facilities and electricity to keep the public safe in case of floods in the Vazhaithottam rivers. The Valparai district administration has reviewed measures to prevent flooding in the area where the Vazhaithottam river floods every year in the area and in the bus depot to prevent flooding.
The ‘Tharaipaalam’ will be flooded if it floods on the way to the Anali Estate area near Valparai. They also reviewed the situation in which the public could not walk in the area in case of floods. Then they inspected the Sholayar Dam filled to its full capacity yesterday and the discharge through the sluices. Valparai Tahsildhar Rajan and VAO Vijay Amirtharaj were present during the inspection
