Sexual crimes against girls have been on the rise in Coimbatore district for the past few days. Sex offenders are on the rise despite arrests and action under the POCSO Act against criminals. Awareness camps are being conducted on behalf of the police in every village under the theme 'Vizhithiru' as a measure to prevent sexual offenses against children across the district.

A large number of people attended the awareness camp held at Poosaripatti near Pollachi under the leadership of District Superintendent of Police Selvanagarathnam. The camp was attended by social activists, doctors and lawyers who provided counseling. Later, in an interview with reporters, District Superintendent of Police Selvanagarathnam said that the supervision of parents was necessary to ensure the safety of the child as the girl children are alone at home during the curfew. Further, all measures are being taken to prevent sexual offenses against girls in Coimbatore district.
He said that within a period of two months he would meet the public in all the villages across the district to prevent sexual offenses against girl children and create awareness about the POCSO Act.
