As excess water is released into the Chithirai Chavadi dam, several public throng the place to enjoy the sight of the cascading water.
One such incident turned disastrous on Friday, as two mindless inebriated youth stepped into the checkdam to click selfies. Due to increased water flow, one of the inebriated man was swept away, while the other was trying to save him. The video of the duo struggling to save themselves has gone viral.
As such incidents have become a common phenomenon during flooding, the public have urged that the checkdam area should be monitored either by police or public works department. Only if surveillance is intensified, such untoward incidents can be prevented, opine the public.
