Railway Police arrested two men for smuggling ganja on train to Kerala via Coimbatore and seized 44 kg ganja from them.
Coimbatore: With the illegal sale of ganja posing a threat in various parts of Coimbatore, special forces led by the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, S Selvanagarathinam have arrested many people in connection to the ganja racket. The Coimbatore Railway Police were informed that ganja was being smuggled by train and hence the Railway Police conducted an intensive search at railway stations and trains on Thursday.
The train from Hyderabad to Thiruvananthapuram arrived at the Coimbatore railway station on Thursday morning. Two men who got off the train were found to be suspicious and were interrogated by the police.When the two suspects were searched by the Railway Security Force, 44 kg of ganja was found on them. The investigation revealed that Sellathurai (51) and Kathiresan (35) were from Theni. They were trying to smuggle ganja packets from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala worth Rs.4.5 lakhs. It was then discovered that they were smuggling 44 kg of ganja to Kerala via Coimbatore.
The Central Narcotics Division officers have arrested both men and are investigating further.
