Aishwarya (23), daughter of Murugesan who serves in the Coimbatore Armed Forces, lives with her family in Srirampuram, Periyanaickenpalayam. She was on her way home on a two-wheeler with her sister on ADT Colony Road on Wednesday night when two men on a bike snatched a two-sovereign gold chain from Aishwarya's neck and fled. Aishwarya lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Race Course police. Following this, the police have launched a search for the chain-snatchers.
In another similar accident, Shanthi (46) from K K Pudur Ramalinga Nagar, a Mathematics professor at a private college in Coimbatore who returns from college by bus everyday usually walks to her house which is a little distance from the bus stop. In the blink of an eye, an unidentified person distracted Shanthi and snatched the five-sovereign gold chain from her neck and fled before neighbours rushed to the spot on hearing Shanthi's screams. Shanti lodged a complaint with the Saibaba Colony police who registered the case and are conducting an investigation.
