Coimbatore: With surveillance cameras recording an increase in the movement of leopards in Kamaraj Nagar, Gaggan Colony, Children's Park, Anna Nagar, MGR Nagar and Vazhaithottam areas in Valparai, top forest officials have begun inspecting areas where leopards have been spotted roaming freely in the last few months.
These frequent spottings of leopards have caused panic among the locals. Following this, the Forest Department had set up cages at two places in the Vazhaithottam area to capture the leopards. But the leopards however have been freely roaming in the forest without getting trapped. Surveillance cameras recorded the movement of three leopards in front of the primary health center near Gandhi statue in the central part of Valparai.
As the footage went viral on social media, officials reiterated that action was being taken to catch the leopards. Assistant Forest Ranger Prasanth, Assistant Forest Ranger Selvam, Forest Officer Manoharan, Commissioner Ramesh, Tahsildhar Raja, Forest ranger and other Forest Department officers inspected the areas where the leopards had been spotted roaming.
