Youth arrested for abducting and raping minor girl from Thondamuthur
Coimbatore: A youth who abducted and raped a girl in the Thondamuthur area has been arrested and jailed under the POCSO Act. A 16-year old girl studying in Class 11 at a school in Thondamuthur, in Coimbatore had begun working at a textile shop in Alandurai since schools had not reopened.
The girl and Karthik (21) who is a painter from the same area have reportedly been in love for two years. The girl who went to work on July 18 had not returned home even after dark. The parents feared for her safety and contacted the textile shop where she was working. They were told that she had left after work a while ago. Following a complaint lodged by the girl's parents, the Alandurai police conducted an investigation.
During the investigation, the police discovered that Karthik had abducted the girl and traced their whereabouts to Pannimadai. The police then brought both the girl and Karthik to the Alandurai police station. When the girl was interrogated there, it was revealed that Karthik had abducted the girl and kept her in a temple in Pannimadai, where he had married her and then raped her. Karthik was arrested by the police under the POCSO Act, with charges of abduction and rape of a minor girl.
