Many workers have moved to areas like Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur due to lack of work and threat of wildlife attacks.
Due to this the economy of Valparai reached a very bad state. Though Valparai has great scenery, tourism has never been encouraged and number of tourists visiting Valparai is also low compared to other tourist places. Tourist places in and around Valparai and various projects are being implemented to promote tourism in Valparai. All the roads in Valparai are being widened to two lanes.
There is also a boat house and a botanical garden being created for tourists. Although the botanical garden has been under construction for the last two years, it is currently being undertaken at a very slow pace.
Traders have demanded the municipality to bring the botanical garden into use as soon as possible to increase the number of tourists visiting Valparai.
