AIADMK lawyer files a case citing Paiyya Krishnan to stop DMK executives from participating in government functions: Court denies issuing ban
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Udayampalayam Lawyer Gopalakrishnan was pursuing a case in the Chennai High Court.
He filed in his petition saying "DMK district secretaries participate in government programs as if they were elected by the people which is contrary to democracy. He said Coimbatore District Secretary Paiyya Krishnan was the reason. The Chennai High Court has ruled that the DMK district secretary cannot be barred from participating in and presiding over government functions.
AIADMK district secretary Gopalakrishnan, who is from Udayampalayam, Coimbatore district, has filed a petition alleging that no DMK and alliance party representatives were elected from Coimbatore in the recent assembly elections. But Paiyya R. Krishnan, DMK secretary for Coimbatore West district, has been accused of leading government programs as an elected people's representative. The petition alleges that he presided over the relief aid program and provided relief aid. Following that he was barred from attending and leading government programs because it was illegal.
When the case came up for hearing in a session comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy, prosecutor Muthukumar said the case, which was filed due to political turmoil, was not fit for trial. Usually, political party executives have no role in government programs. Judges said there was no bar to attending these events and closed the case, saying it could not ban the DMK district secretary from attending the event.
