Farmers bring the harvested tomatoes to the vegetable market near the new bus stand in Kinathukadavu and auction them off. Traders from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Kerala also come to buy native tomatoes. Until last week, a basket of tomatoes weighing 15 kg was auctioned for 170 rupees.
But today the farmers were happy as a basket of tomatoes went up by 100 rupees to 270 rupees. Farmers in Kinnathukadavu area said that the price of tomatoes has gone down as tomatoes were not harvested due to continuous rains last week.
