Vaccination for postnatal mothers in TN reached 65,929; Coimbatore tops list in vaccinating postnatal mothers
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Government has made arrangements to inoculate postnatal mothers following the guidelines stipulated by the Government against Covid-19 after the havoc created by the second wave of Covid-19.
In the wake of a rise in the daily caseload of Covid-19 infections over the past few months, the Directorate of Public Health has drawn a plan to inoculate postnatal mothers across the state by organizing special vacination camps.
The State Government had managed to reserve the vaccines dispatched to them from the Union Government and administered the vaccines to postnatal mothers through hospitals, vaccine centres and PHCs. Mothers who have delivered babies between December 2020 and May 2021 were considered eligible to get their jabs according to the Directorate of Public Health.
The Directorate of Public Health has however announced the chart of a number of postnatal mothers inoculated in the State thus far.As many as 65,929 postnatal mothers have been vaccinated against Covid, according to them. The data also says that at least 65,829 postnatal mothers have been administered with first doses, while 258 mothers also got their second doses. In the total number of mothers vaccinated, Coimbatore topped the list in vaccinating many with at least 6452 mothers having been administered their shots. However, none of the lactating mothers in the district reported of having been given a second dose.
Officials from the Health Department say that the postnatal mothers are being given their shots at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital though the district complains about vaccine shortages. Sources also say that the vaccines will be reserved for postnatal mothers and special camps will be organized to stress the importance of vaccines.
Tamil Nadu, as per the recent report, with 4,00,000 jabs each day is reeling from shortage of vaccine stock. Meanwhile, the State on Monday reported 1,971 new Covid cases, going down below 2,000 cases after March 26, thus bringing the active cases to 27,282. With 25,37,373 total positive cases in the State thus far, the test positivity rate stood at 1.46 percent. Coimbatore’s test positivity rate on Monday stood at 2.6 percent with 220 fresh cases.
