19 peacocks found dead at private farm near Palladam in Tirupur Dist.; Forest officials arrest owner who admits to poisoning them

On Sunday, 19 peacocks were reportedly found dead on a private farm in Palladam area of Tirupur district. Upon information, the Forest Department rushed to the scene and sent the dead peacocks for an examination. It was revealed that the peacocks were poisoned and hence the police have arrested the owner of the private farm and are investigating.

The tragic incident of 19 peacocks being killed a farmer ocurred on the Valayapalayam-Nachiyar farm in Ganapathipalayam Panchayat owned by Palanisamy (65) of the same area. Based on the autopsy, the veterinarian confirmed that the peacocks had been killed by poisoning.

Forest Officer Kasilingam said, “Peacocks coming to the farm have damaged the crops. Out of anger, farmer Palanisamy mixed poison in the rice, and after eating it, 12 female and 7 male peacocks died. We have arrested Palanosamy and are interrogating him."

It is to be noted that last week, at Muthanampalayam near Tirupur, 24 peacocks had died and now in the Palladam area, 19 peacocks have died.
