A15-year old girl who was suddenly admitted to the Pollachi Government Hospital gives birth to baby boy; Visually-impaired 49-year old arrested under POCSO for impregnating a minor
Coimbatore: A 15-year old girl from a village near Pollachi who lives with her mother after the demise of her father was admitted to the Pollachi Government Hospital for treatment due to sudden abdominal pain. The doctors who examined the girl were shocked to discover that she was pregnant. The minor gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday. Following this, the doctors informed the Pollachi Women's Police.
Later, during an interrogation by the police, the girl complained that she was forcibly raped by a 49-year old visually-impaired man named Gurusami near the girl's house. The Women's Police have filed a case under the POCSO Act against Gurusami on charges of rape. He was arrested and produced in court following which he was taken to jail. Efforts are also being made to send the girl and her baby boy to a care home through the courts.
