Continued rain in the catchment areas; Siruvani dam water level rises to 26 feet

Due to continuous rains in the catchment areas of Siruvani Dam, the water level of the dam has risen significantly to 26 feet.

Coimbatore: The water level of the Siruvani Dam has risen significantly to 26 feet due to continuous rains in the catchment areas.

Siruvani is the source of drinking water for 26 wards in Coimbatore and more than 20 villages adjoining the city. 10 crore liters of drinking water is being extracted daily from the dam. In this situation, the water level of the dam gradually decreased due to the impact of the summer during the months of April and May.

As the southwest monsoon has started, it has been raining continuously in the catchment areas of Siruvani for the last few days. Due to this, the water level in the Mukthiyaaru and Pattiyalaaru, which goes to the dam, has increased.

An official of the Drinking Water Drainage Board said, 'The water level of the Siruvani Dam, which was 24 feet last week, has risen to 26 feet yesterday due to continuous rains. In case of continuous rains in the catchment areas, the Siruvani Dam is likely to reach full capacity in August.
