Valparai Anaimalai Tiger Reserve is located in the Coimbatore district. There is a lot of wildlife like tiger, leopard, bear and elephant here. The number of leopards in Valparai has increased in the last few months. Foresters were engaged in intensive surveillance. Surveillance has been sluggish for the past few weeks. The forest department set up cages at two places in the banana plantation area near Valparai to catch the leopard.
However, the leopard is moving towards the forest without getting trapped. In the last few days, a scene of leopards roaming in front of the Government Primary Health Center near the Gandhi statue in the central part of Valparai was posted on social media.
The incident caused great fear and panic among the people of the area. Following this, the forest department of the Valparai Forest Reserve has installed 3 modern surveillance cameras in both the gates of the Government Primary Health Center and in the front stairwell areas. The forest department said that the next step will be to monitor the movement of leopards.
