Coimbatore : The Coimbatore district administration and health department finally sees respite after many days by making changes in the vaccination drive programme.

Coimbatore district has been reeling under shortage of vaccines and uncontrollable number of people flocking the vaccine Centre from midnights.

The district administration and health department have jointly made an decision to announce about the places where the vaccination would begin at 8am in every morning, to control the people standing in queue for many hours.

This move comes days after when the district reported more number of people standing in queues, with sleeping mats, water bottles and mosquito coils, without sleeping, to just get themselves administered with the vaccine.

At present, the departments involved in administering public with the vaccines, only announce vaccine centers at 8AM and start issuing tokens around 10am in every morning at the designated centres. By 11am the people will be given their shots, based on the tokens issued.

While this helped people from thronging centres confused and creating menaces, they have also welcomed the move now.

Many took to social media to appreciate the new strategy took by the district administration to vaccinate the people.

One such cityzen shared that he could be able to alert his friend after reaching the spot at 8am and added his friend managed to stand at the queue to get jab. He also noted that this drive is of great use.

He added that this will avoid people waiting desperately from midnights and getting disappointed if vaccines are not available.

However, in a bid to avoid fake allegations against the district administration for allegedly giving tokens to politicians, the district administration have openly released the number of tokens issued to the public in Vellakinaru vaccination centre.

It said as many as 350 tokens have been issued to the public and vaccinated them in the centre.

The health department officials said the strategy hasworked out in a way they had expected and it will help in avoiding the previously happened situation in future.
