In this case, Sarah Backy told Saravanan that she would give him 20,000 pound worth of gold jewellery as a gift and that he would have to pay excise tax if he wanted to receive the gift. After that, someone called Saravanan on the phone as if he was an excise officer and asked him to pay. Relying on it, Saravanan deposited Rs. 9,50,000 in the bank account mentioned by the excise officer on the phone. After that Saravanan did not get the gift as promised.
After that he tried to contact Sarah Backy but could not contact her. The Facebook page was also found to be fake. A case has been registered at the Coimbatore District Cyber Crime Police Station following a complaint lodged by Saravanan at the Coimbatore District Police today. Despite the various awareness campaigns by the police regarding cyber crimes, the public is being bribed like this without any awareness.
