Coimbatore Medical College Hospital treats children with congenital malformations

Children with congenital malformations from birth to 18 years of age are diagnosed early and treated appropriately at an early stage.


Coimbatore: At the District Primary Care Center, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, children with congenital malformations from birth to 18 years of age are diagnosed early and treated appropriately at an early stage.

Problems with brain development, malnutrition 4Ds (Defects at Birth, Deficiency, Diseases, Developmental delay including disabilities) are detected early and treatment is given at an early stage.

Congenital heart disease, lip and esophagus, autism, deafness, retinopathy & prematurity, cognitive and linguistic delay, vitamin and protein and iodine deficiency, anemia, dental caries, epilepsy, clubfoot, early diagnosis of neural tube defect, early diagnosis, surgery, training, rehabilitation, certification for alternatively abled and referral to government assistance are made available through this center. L&T Valves has donated a total of 72 equipment including laboratories, dentistry, ophthalmology, mechanical training, drinking water and purification equipment to be used for these treatments performed at the center (DEIC) worth 11.7 lakhs. It was presented on 16.07.2021 in the presence of the Principal, Coimbatore Medical College.

Children have so far been identified and treated under the National Welfare Program through 26 RBSK medical teams across the district through the District Intervention Service Center.

Lip cleft palate - 71 children underwent surgery.

Congenital heart disease‌ - 81 children underwent surgery.

Cerebral palsy - 17 children underwent surgery.

Cochlear implant fitting - 23 children underwent surgery.

Certificate for Alternative Skills - 106 issued to children.
