Coimbatore: Cattle market is held twice a week in Pollachi taluk of Coimbatore district.
Trade of Rs 2 crore has taken place in two days this week unlike any other week. The merchants said the sales were high because of the Bakrid festival. Pollachi Cattle Market is held weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The supply of cattle to the market increased yesterday from other states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and various districts of Tamil Nadu.
Despite the rain, sales were brisk. Cattle traders said, in total, 1,500 cows were brought to the Pollachi cattle market and business was high during the Bakrid festival. The prices ranges for various breeds are: native bull, 50 - 55 thousand rupees, native cow, 30 - 35 thousand, native buffalo, 40 - 45 thousand; Mura, 55 - 60 thousand; Jersey 35 - 40 thousand rupees. In total cattle worth two crore rupees were traded.
