Police today arrested and jailed two people for allegedly swindling Rs 2.85 crore claiming to secure a loan to expand a prestigious hospital in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Police arrested and jailed two people for allegedly swindling Rs 2.85 crore claiming to secure a loan to expand a prestigious hospital in Coimbatore. Also, various fraudulent documents were seized in the room where they were staying.
Dr. Madheswaran, the head of the Coimbatore Royalcare Hospital, was contacted in October 2020 by four persons, including Panneer Selvam of Alangudi, Pudukkottai district, for fraudulently obtaining a loan and they got a commission of Rs. 2.85 crores. Based on complaint by the doctor on forgery Coimbatore City Police have registered a case and are investigating the complaint
A special team was set up and investigated on the orders of the Coimbatore City Commissioner. Police raided Panneer Selvam's house, Chennai Adyar and Alangudi in Pudukottai district, where the office is located, following a court order. During the search, a large number of unfilled stamps, pro notes, checks, contracts and documents made with various persons were seized by the police. Panneer Selvam and Selvakumar who were hiding in Chennai were arrested by the Coimbatore Crime Division Police. Two luxury cars and Rs 49.85 crore received from Ahmedabad-based Axis Bank in Rajasthan in the name of Sailesh Prabhakar Singer and the same amount of Rs 49.85 crore fade demand drafts were also seized.
It is to be noted that in the year 2010, Panneer Selvam received Rs. 10 lakhs promising to give 2 kg of gold to Manikkam from Kallakurichi and cheated him by not giving him the gold. Police said that there are more than 20 cases against Panneer Selvam in Tamil Nadu.
