Coimbatore: Ration rice is being smuggled from Coimbatore to Kerala. Yesterday, the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit conducted an intensive vehicle search in the Ukkadam area.
Then they stopped the fast moving auto and inspected it. There was a ton of rice in small bundles in that auto. It was revealed that they were being smuggled to Kerala. Following this, Thavamani, 48, of Coimbatore was arrested.
A ton of ration rice was seized and the Food smuggling prevention unit police have warned that they will be severely punished for smuggling ration rice to Kerala. Police continue to patrol day and night to prevent smuggling of rice
