Coimbatore: On behalf All India Democratic Women's Association, a protest was held in front of the Pollachi Head Telephone Station, led by Radhika, Secretary, Coimbatore District All India Democratic Women's Association condemning the increase in petrol, diesel and gas cylinder prices.

Despite the pouring rain, the women protested by performing 'kummi' around gas cylinders.

They then raised slogans of protest against the central government.

Later, in an interview to reporters, All India Democratic Women's Association secretary Radhika alleged that the subsidy was not paid to the bank due to the high price of gas. She said that the poor and middle class families would be severely affected due to the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices and thus the prices of essential commodities would go up many times over. She said the central government should take a policy decision to reduce the tax on petrol and diesel.
