Sargunam Murthy from the same area is working as a guru in this temple. When he opened the temple today he was shocked to find that the door lock had been broken. He then found that a large hundi kept for cash offerings in the temple had been broken into and money had been stolen. Aliyar police was then informed of the incident.
Police arrived at the scene with the help of fingerprint experts and are investigating the theft. They also broke into the door of a locked house belonging to Senthil near the temple in the same area. The temple administration said the value of the money currently stolen from the temple hundi could be more than three lakh rupees as it has not been opened for almost four years.
Aliyar police have registered a case and are investigating the thefts at the temple and a nearby house.
