Pandi, a labourer from Asoka Puram near Thudiyalur, Coimbatore had a son, Arul Selvam (15) who was studying in Class 11 at a Government school in the area. Since schools were closed due to lockdown imposed in the State, Arul Selvam was studying at home. Since classes were currently being conducted online, Arul Selvam had asked his father to buy him a mobile phone but his father had assured him of buying the phone two days later due to lack of funds.
Arul Selvam reportedly became very distressed and ended his life at home by hanging himself in the living room, leaving his parents devastated. He was rushed to the Coimbatore Government Hospital but doctors who examined Arul Selvam declared that he was brought dead. The Thudiyalur police have registered a case and are investigating.
