Coimbatore: Right after the death of the 15-year old elephant due to anthrax was reported in Sembukarai, Anaikatti forest division in Coimbatore district, the Animal Husbandry Department have begun vaccinating cattle and goats to prevent anthrax.
Coimbatore: Right after the death of the 15-year old elephant due to anthrax was reported in Sembukarai, Anaikatti forest division in Coimbatore district, the Animal Husbandry Department have begun vaccinating cattle and goats to prevent anthrax.
Three teams have been formed by the Forest Department to vaccinate as many as 250 identified cattle and goats in the radius of 8 km from where the elephant was found dead. Sources say that the 8 km radius should be taken into account and all cattle and goats within that radius should be administered with anthrax spores to prevent anthrax.
While the drive is expected to be completed within a few days, sources also say that they have alerted the Kerala Forest Department to check if there have been any similar anthrax cases reported recently.
