Coimbatore: Two Peelamedu power plant employees involved in money swindling in Coimbatore have been suspended.
Murugesan was working as a Revenue Superintendent at the Coimbatore Electricity Board Peelamedu East Divisional Office. Sadiq Ali works as a computational analyst in the same office. Both of them had tampered with a computer at the Pelamedu office for paying electricity bills, received money from many people claiming that they would pay the money and then gave them a receipt and did not pay it to the electricity board. There were also allegations of fraudulent payments, including to those who came to pay extra deposits.
The Consumer Voice of Coimbatore had lodged a complaint with the Chief Executive, Chief Engineer and Supervising Engineer regarding various irregularities and frauds taking place in the office. However, it was not investigated. In this case, the two have swindled money from a person belonging to the Peelamedu area. The victim then lodged a complaint with the Electricity Board.
The Accounts Division, which conducted the investigation, confirmed that fraud had taken place. Murugesan, the revenue supervisor involved in the scam, and Sadiq Ali, the accounting analyst, have both been sacked after the report was submitted to the authorities. Also, a woman who worked as an electrical accountant in that office has been transferred.
Authorities have confirmed this and are investigating the amount of fraud. Meanwhile, Coimbatore Consumer Voice executive Loku has called for a comprehensive investigation into all scams taking place in the office.
