Crime Police seize 2 tons of ration rice being smuggled to Kerala and arrest a man from Sulur
Coimbatore: Police have seized a vehicle trying to smuggle 2 tons of ration rice from Coimbatore to Kerala. One person involved in the smuggling was arrested and jailed. A team comprising of the Criminal Investigation Department Sub-Inspectors Maruthu and Gopu, police officials Sundaresan and Prabhu conducted a surprise raid at the Walayar police check post on the Coimbatore-Palakkad main road.
The police officials stopped and checked a truck that was speeding along the Coimbatore-Palakkad main road. During the inspection, 2 tons of rice from the public distribution scheme of the Government of Tamil Nadu was discovered.The authorities confiscated the ration rice which was being smuggled to Kerala, along with the vehicle.
Later, the Pollachi Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Department registered a case against Ayyappan (28) from Sulur and arrested him for trying to smuggle the ration rice to Kerala.
