7 men arrested for abducting Kerala youth and robbing them of Rs 3.60 lakhs

Seven men were arrested for abducting Kerala youth in the pretext of selling a van and robbed the youth of Rs. 3.60 lakhs


Coimbatore: The Madukkarai special team of police on Monday arrested seven men for kidnapping youth from Kerala and robbing them of Rs 3.16 lakhs, having lured them through a website that they dealt with selling vans near Madukkarai in Coimbatore.

Sujith (41) from Ernakulam district in Kerala works for a private courier company and had looked through a popular website to buy a used van. Sajin, through the OLX website invited Sujith to Coimbatore claiming that he was selling his van. Last Wednesday, Sujith along with his friends Sunil (53), Robin (32), Vijith (26) and Rajesh (46) arrived at the Coimbatore Othakalmandapam area in a rental car to buy Sajin's van.

Three men reportedly arrived at the meeting place in an auto and accompanied Sujith and Sunil to the Bodipalayam area to show them a van. The men then took the two youth from Kerala to a rented house near Madukkarai where the men with a few others attacked them. They snatched Rs. 3.16 lakhs from the duo, took Sunil's ATM card and withdrew Rs.45,000. They also snatched Sujith and Sunil's mobile phones and watches, photographed the two naked, dropped them off on the Cochin highway and fled in Sujith's rental car.



A shocked Sujith and Sunil rented a car, drove to a friends' place and then rushed to the Chettipalayam police station to lodge a complaint. The police transferred the case to Madukkarai police station where the Madukkarai police have registered a case in connection with the robbery. The police then launched a man-hunt for the unidentified miscreants on the orders of the District Superintendent of Police, Selvanagarathnam.

During the first phase of the investigation, Iyappan (35) alias Raja of Karur district was arrested. Sajan (26), Ajith (19) from Palakkad, Mohammad Saleem (22), Ajmal Khan (29), Ansar (30) and Rajesh (29) from Malappuram district were later arrested by the special team of police in Kerala. The seven accused were then produced before a judge and remanded in custody.
