Coimbatore: The demand for palmyra fruit and spinach has increased rapidly in Gulf countries which has helped in boosting the booking of more cargo at Coimbatore airport.
Post the pandemic outbreak, only 'Air Arabia' has been providing service between Coimbatore and Sharjah in the International Sector at Coimbatore International Airport. During June, more than 30 tonnes of cargo has been exported in the flights operated at Coimbatore Airport.
Aviation sources say, "From June 1 till June 15, one flight was operated between Coimbatore and Sharjah, weekly. From June 15 till June 30, two flights were operated weekly. Totally, 31 tons of cargo have been handled in the 'Air Arabia flight' during June from Coimbatore airport. Vegetables and flowers were exported more, especially the palmyra fruit and spinach. The cargo booking for these continues to increase each time since the demand for these items are witnessed more in Gulf countries, post pandemic outbreak."
