Rainfall Disaster Management meeting held at Valparai Tahsildar office


Coimbatore: Rainfall Disaster Management meeting was held at the Valparai Tahsildar office in the presence of the Coimbatore District Review Committee Tahsildar Samy, and under the supervision of Tahsildhar Rajan and Pension Department Tahsildar Muthukumar. Doctors and officials from the Electricity Department, Forest Department, Education Department, Fire Department, Municipality, Police Department and Public Works Department were also present. The Valparai Men's High School was selected as a rescue camp shelter to keep people safe during the rainy season.



It was also discussed to have all necessary electricity and drinking water facilities repaired. Forest officials have been informed to cut down fallen trees near residential schools and to inspect flood-prone areas and landslide-prone areas in tribal villages. The Valparai police have been asked to ensure adequate security measures are in plae in the event of a disaster and also to beef up security in the Valparai and Sholayar dam areas.

The Medical Department is currently in the process of administering 13,000 Covid-19 vaccines to public in the Valparai area. For the last 10 days alone, vaccination has been done only in the Valparai area, making it difficult for tribal people to get vaccinated. Doctors in collaboration with the Forest Department have been administering the Covid-19 vaccine. The Electricity Department has been asked to take care of power outage issues and inform the Forest Department if trees in the Chinna Kallar forest area need to be cleared if trees fall on power lines.



The Municipality Department was asked to create awareness amongst the general public in Valparai and to warn tourists and the general public against bathing in the Kuzhangal River near Valparai, during floods and rainy season. It was also decided at the meeting that the Forest Department and the police should work together on the river to set up a dam and engage in security work.



The Fire Department was also asked to be involved in security work in times of disaster and create awareness among the general public. It was decided to make public the phone numbers of Valparai Tahsildar Office, Police Municipality Office, in case of an emergency - 1077 and Valparai Tahsildhar at 9445000577
