Coimbatore: Every $1 Billion additional exports in the Textile and Apparel sector can create 1.5 lakh new jobs. Now, the export climate is in favour of the TN Textile sector.
To capitalise the export opportunities and to further strengthen the Manufacturing ecosystem, ITF presented a 5 point suggestion to our State Govt.
In a press release to media, ITF stated that "Team ITF visited Chennai and met Hon Textile Minister, Hon industry Minister and all other senior secretary level officials and presented the same.
1. To build scale and competitiveness and to enable the medium sized companies to expand, TN can work out a roadmap to capitalise the opportunity emerging withMITRA park scheme by creating an integrated and plug & play apparel park. This will bring the much needed thrust to our efforts to increase exports.
2. To facilitate the SME apparel and home textiles sector to expand, we can pick 10 to 15 small towns with good workforce availability and create small plug and playinfra for stitching facilities. This will spread the sector in various parts of our state and help to avoid overcrowding in a few clusters. This will also create new employment in multiple small towns.
3. Global buyers demand more of a sustainability component in sourcing; and TN textile sector already follows world class standards in sustainable manufacturing. We need to devise a special theme to brand TN Textile and Apparel sector as most sustainable destination for fashion sourcing. This will also help the sector to capture the market share in value added products.
4. TN and Japan have a good trade relationship. As part of our market diversification efforts, TN textile sector need to work with Japan buyers. In this regard, TN Govt. can facilitate one Working Group with 50 of our Apparel companies, to work Exclusively with Japanese Apparel Market.
5. We can conceptualise a scheme for Medium and Large companies to run Technical Institutes within the campus with University Certifications. This will help the sector in attracting talent; and in the process, we can develop skilled workforce for the sector.
Tamil Nadu Govt. Ministers and the Officials patiently listened to us and also responded well for all our suggestions.
They further expressed their Vision of bringing more thrust to growth of manufacturing sector in the state.
We are confident about the new State Govt's willingness to try new models & new ideas to create new employment with the aim of increasing per capita income of the state. Textile and Apparel sector perfectly align with this Vision; and We Team ITF shall work towards achieving the overall growth of our sector with the support of our State Govt."
