Coimbatore: The ambulance driver who married a minor girl was arrested under the POCSO Act.
Police said, Kiran Kumar, 21, is an ambulance driver from Vellakovil, Tirupur district. His friend used to work in a mill in Karumathampatti area. Kiran Kumar, who was visiting a friend at the time, got acquainted with a 17-year-old girl who worked there. Kiran Kumar and the girl got into a relationship. The girl's father went to the mill and brought his daughter to the Coimbatore railway station.
The girl escaped from her father saying she was going to buy a bottle of water. The girl's father lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Racecourse Police. The police filed a case and investigated. It was revealed that Kiran Kumar took the girl and got married in a temple on the 9th.
Following this, the police went to Vellakoil and brought the girl and the ambulance driver to Coimbatore. Kiran Kumar was later charged and arrested by the police under the POCSO Act for kidnapping and marrying a minor girl. He was later produced in court and imprisoned in Avinashi.
