'Surveillance intensified at 13 check posts across Tamil Nadu-Kerala border due to rising Covid-19 and Zika virus cases in Kerala:' District Collector Sameeran

The entry procedure for those entering Tamil Nadu from other states is a compulsory registration and application for e-pass.



Coimbatore: Following the decline in the spread of Covid-19 cases across Tamil Nadu, various relaxations have been announced by the Government, including resuming of bus transport facilities and cancellation of in-state e-registration system.

However, the ban on public transport between states continues. The entry procedure for those entering Tamil Nadu from other states is a compulsory registration and application for e-pass.

Over 20 new cases of Zika virus have been detected in the state of Kerala, with reports of fresh cases of Covid-19 also looming. Following this, surveillance at check posts along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border were intensified to prevent the resurgence of Covid-19 infections in Tamil Nadu. Surveillance has been intensified at 13 check posts in Coimbatore district including Meenatchipuram, Velanthavalam, Nadupuni and Walayar. Vehicles from Kerala are allowed to enter the Tamil Nadu border only after verifying the e-pass at the check posts.



At check posts, the Health Department checks the body temperature of all those entering the Tamil Nadu border and ensures that all travellers are wearing face masks.



Those who do not wear the mask are fined and given masks.



The Coimbatore District Collector, Sameeran conducted a surprise inspection at the Walayar check post on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.



Speaking to the media, Sameeran said the daily number of Covid-19 cases in Coimbatore district has dipped to less than 400 due to the swift action taken by the Tamil Nadu government to prevent further spread. He said the people should continue to follow the standard guidelines of the Tamil Nadu government to curb the spread of the virus. The District Collector, Sameeran also said those entering Coimbatore from Kerala must register on the Tamil Nadu government's website.
