Consultative meeting held on behalf of Tholilalar Munnetra Sangam in Valparai
Coimbatore: The wage agreement for over 30,000 workers employed in the tea estates in Valparai, Coimbatore district is renewed once in every four years.
The tea plantation workers' contract was finalized last month and it is customary for tea plantation managements and unions to work out new agreements with workers but tea plantation managements have been delaying without coming forward to implement the new rules.
This has left workers disappointed and a consultative meeting on behalf of the DMK's trade union, Tholilalar Munnetra Sangam was held in Valparai. The meeting was chaired by Kozhikadai Ganesan, President of the Tholilalar Munnetra Sangam.
At the meeting, it was demanded that the administrations call on the unions to come up with a new wage agreement and enforce it. They also urged the Tamil Nadu Government to take steps to raise the minimum wage for tea plantation workers, and ensure that the one-day wage should not be less than Rs. 600.
The meeting was attended by various trade union executives and workers, including Kozhikadai Ganesan, MDMK Kalyani and Manikkam Prabhakaran, the leader of Tholilalar Munnetra Sangam.
