Police investigating the death of the wife of hotel worker who was found dead inside her rented house in Thondamuthur.
Coimbatore: Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found half-naked inside her house in Thondamuthur area of Coimbatore.
The woman has been identified as Mallika (34), the wife of Pandi (37) from Periyakulam in Theni district.
The couple had been living in a rented house on VOC Road, near the Thondamuthur Mariamman Temple for the past one year. Pandi and Mallika were reportedly working in a nearby hotel. Since the owner of the hotel had been suffering from Covid-19, the hotel had not been operational which had left Pandi without work.
On Monday morning, the house owner's wife reportedly knocked on Pandi's door to inform Mallika that drinking water was being supplied. Finding the door unlocked, the owner's wife opened the door and discovered a stench emanating from inside the house.She was shocked to see Mallika lying half-naked in a decomposed state and immediately informed the Thondamuthur police station.
Perur Assistant Superintendent of Police, Thirumal and Thondamuthur Inspector, Sivakumar rushed to the spot to recover the body. Forensic experts were called in to conduct a forensic test and further investigation revealed that Pandi had not been in his home for more than four days. Thondamuthur police are investigating whether Pandi had fled the scene after killing his wife, or if someone else had entered their house and raped and killed Mallika, while Pandi was out. The death of Mallika in her own residential area has shocked everyone in the neighbourhood.
