Valparai in Coimbatore district employs more than 30,000 workers. Their pay deal ended last month. Management has so far taken no action to negotiate a new wage agreement between management and the unions. In this context, the State Minister of Information Saminathan who visited Valparai told to pay a minimum wage of 600 rupees to the Valparai tea plantation workers.
The DMK has demanded that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister take action to raise the minimum wage for Valparai tea plantation workers. Valparai DMK Plantation Workers' M.L.F. Leader S. Kalyani, Prabhakaran, Magudeeswaran, Vadakadai Kutty and Prakash submitted a petition to the Minister.
