Coimbatore: On the instructions of Chief Minister MK Stalin, Information Minister Saminathan inspected the water reservoirs in the Valparai area to improve the Parambikulam Azhiyar irrigation projects in the Valparai area and to implement the Nallaru reservoir project which is missing from the irrigation project.
Coimbatore: On the instructions of Chief Minister MK Stalin, Information Minister Saminathan inspected the water reservoirs in the Valparai area to improve the Parambikulam Azhiyar irrigation projects in the Valparai area and to implement the Nallaru reservoir project which is missing from the irrigation project.
The Parambikulam Dam, Azhiyaru Dam, PAP Irrigation Project is being implemented with rain water in the vicinity of Valparai in Coimbatore District. The water of six dams in Valparai such as Anaimalai River, Niraru Dam, Solayaru Dam and Parambikulam Dam is wasted into the Arabian Sea.
This water is made available in Tamil Nadu with Upper Niraaru in the PAP Irrigation Scheme to be used for irrigation and drinking water needs for agriculture in the districts including in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode. The Government of Kerala and the Government of Tamil Nadu have agreed in 1958 to cultivate 4 lakh acres in the Solayaru Dam Azhiyaru project under the water sharing system. The Parambikulam Azhiyaru project is also functioning on that basis.
There is an agreement that after the Kerala government builds a dam in the Idamalaiyaru area, the Tamil Nadu government will build a dam in the Anamalaiyaru area.
Further, Information Minister Saminathan inspected the dams and informed the Chief Minister that the two states would work smoothly as per the instructions of Chief Minister MK Stalin to work with the Government of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to conclude a new sub-agreement to implement this.
He had earlier inspected the Nirar Dam and Chinnakallar Dam, the Manampalli Power Station.
Pollachi MP Shanmugasundaram, Collector Sameeran, Public Works Department Superintendent Engineer Muthusamy, Tashildar Raja and Valparai Forest Ranger were present. Jayachandran and government officials, party executives Palpandi, Kozhi Kadai Ganesan, Jeppiyar, Sudhakar, Selvam, Senthil, Tamilselvam and many others were present.
