Gothawadi Pond is located on 152 acres in the village of Gothawadi near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore District.
The Gothawadi pond, which has benefited from the rising groundwater level and agricultural irrigation in the surrounding rural areas, is currently overgrown with thorns due to lack of water stagnant during the rainy season due to encroachment and destruction of waterways.
It has been decided to remove the thorns in the pond in collaboration with the Kousika River Conservation Organization, Gothawadi Pond Conservation Society, voluntary organizations, farmers and the public.
Accordingly, the rehabilitation work of the Gothawadi pond has been going on since October 2020.
Thirunavukarasu, who worked as an officer in the Department of Lake Rejuvenation in the Public Works Department in Chennai in 2016, visited and inspected the Gothawadi Pond today.
He also inspected the catchment area of the Gothawadi pond, the banks of the pond and the waterway to the pond, as well as the access to the Gothawadi pond by the excess water flowing through the PAP canal during the rainy season.
Rathinasamy, Chairman, Gothawadi Panchayat Council, Shanmugasundar, Coordinator, Gothawadi Pond Conservation Organization, Ilango and many others were present.
