Rs 35 crore disbursed to 120 people for western bypass land acquisition in Coimbatore

Rs 35 crore compensation has been paid to 120 people for constructing the West Bypass in Coimbatore and 30 acres of land has been acquired, according to the district administration official.


Coimbatore: Rs 35 crore compensation has been paid to 120 people for constructing a western bypass in Coimbatore and 30 acres of land has been acquired, according to the district administration.

In order to ease traffic congestion in Coimbatore, a 32.43 km bypass road will be constructed from the milestone on the Coimbatore-Palakkad road to Narasimhanayakanpalayam. For this, from 16 villages, 355 acres of land is to be acquired.

In the first phase, work has been started to construct 11 km of road. To this end, funds were allocated to acquire land in 5 villages. So far 30 acres of land has been acquired from 120 people from this fund.

A district administration official said, "Vehicles going to Ooty from Coimbatore-Palakkad road have to enter Coimbatore at present. Due to this, there is additional traffic congestion in the city. Similarly, vehicles going from Ooty to Kerala are coming into the city. To avoid this, the Coimbatore West Bypass is to be constructed. The construction work of this road is to be implemented in 3 phases.

Of this, 30 acres have been acquired so far from the villages of Perur, Chettipalayam, Dithipalayam and Madampatti, starting from the milestone area on the Coimbatore-Palakkad road in the first phase. Rs 35 crore has been paid as compensation to 120 people. In addition, compensation of Rs 5 crore for another 40 people will be paid soon.

This will be followed by the second phase to Chithiraichachavadi, Kalikkanayakkanpalayam, Somaiyampalayam, Pannimadai and the third phase to Nanchundapuram, Kurumbapalayam and Narasimhanayakkanpalayam. When this road comes into use, the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road will be less congested, he said.
