Rains are forecast on Friday for Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Vellore, Ranipettai, Tiruvallur, Thiruvannamalai due to prevailing atmospheric circulation and thundershowers are expected at one or two places in Villupuram district, and at other places in Puduvai and Karaikal areas.
Heavy rains are expected on Saturday at Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Kanyakumari, Tiruvallur, Ranipettai, Vellore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Thiruvannamalai districts and Chennai: The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to moderate rain with thundershowers at one or two places in Puthuvai and a few places in other districts and Karaikal.
Heavy to very heavy thundershowers are forecast for one or two places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni and Kanyakumari districts on July 10 and 12, due to intensification of the south-west monsoon. Erode, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli districts are expected to experience light to moderate rain with thundershowers at one or two places. In other districts, the weather is likely to be mostly dry.
The Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Theni districts have been warned to take precautions against landslides as there is a possibility of heavy rains with strong winds and landslides in the hills. For Chennai, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy for the next 48 hours with light rain and with thunder and lightning in some parts of the city.
Fishermen have been warned not to go to sea as strong winds of 40 to 60 kmph are expected in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea from Friday till July 12.
