Coimbatore: Transgender people have demanded that a survey be conducted on the number of transgender people in Tamil Nadu at a special grievance redressal camp held at the Pollachi Collectorate on Thursday. The camp was inaugurated by Collector Thackeray Subham Gnanadevrao.
Numerous transgender people from Pollachi, Kinathukadavu and Anaimalai attended the camp and submitted various petitions including requests for free housing, basic amenities, family cards and employment. They also demanded for a survey to be conducted on the total number of transgender people across Tamil Nadu.

'No survey has been conducted since 2009 on transgender population and only by data gathered from a survey can transgenders needs be met. It is a pleasure to be part of a special camp for transgender people in Pollachi after 10 years. We also thank the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for providing us with free bus travel and Covid relief funds,' said members of the transgender community who were present at the camp.
