Coimbatore: A youth who kidnapped a Class 10 student in the city's Kinathukadavu area and sexually assaulted her has been arrested and jailed under the POCSO Act.
A 16-year old girl studying in Class 10 in a school in Kinathukkadavu area in Coimbatore district was reported missing since March 21. After her kin lodged a complaint with the Kinathukkadavu police station, the police registered a case and began searching for the young student. The girl's kin had also filed an appeal in the Chennai High Court. The High Court judges who heard the petition ordered the Kinnathukadavu police to ensure they found the missing student. Following this, the Kinnathukadavu police set up a team to search for the missing girl.
Meanwhile, after receiving information that the missing student was spotted in Mangalore, in Karnataka, the police rushed to Mangalore to trace her whereabouts. When they found her and enquired, it was revealed that Subramani (23), a youth from Kinathukkadavu Chikkalampalayam area had abducted and sexually assaulted her. The police arrested Subramani on Wednesday night under the POCSO Act on charges of abduction and sexual assault. The 16-year old girl was then handed over by the police to a rescue home in Coimbatore.
