Coimbatore: District Collector Sameeran inaugurated a special grievance camp at a Government High School in the Siddapudur area of Coimbatore.for third genders with regard to their welfare card, family card, monthly pension. He surveyed processes such as issuing them a health card and amending their Aadhaar card. Following that, the Collector also inaugurated a vaccination camp for third genders.
He warned that action will be taken if the housing space allotted for third genders in Coimbatore is occupied by others. Steps are being taken to provide basic facilities for third genders in Coimbatore district. Action is to be taken in consultation with the public on whether housing should be provided in Coimbatore or in a separate place.
Addressing the media, District Collector Sameeran said, 'The aim of the grievance camp was to fulfill the long-standing demand of the third genders for they have long demanded that their identity cards be amended. This camp was set up to fulfill their requests. Moreover, the camp is being held on the orders of the Chief Minister that the grievances of the public should be addressed wherever they are. Third genders visit this camp and make their requests known. There is also a medical and vaccination camp being held for them and arrangements have been made to issue a health card for them,' he added.
