Coimbatore: 18 sovereigns of jewellery stolen by breaking into a house near Sultanpet in Coimbatore.
Parameswari, 45, wife of Sivanandam, of Poorandampalayam Vinayagar koil Road near Sultanpet, is a laborer. She has a daughter, Saranya, 26. Sivanandam was attacked by an elephant and died a few years ago. So Parameswari lived alone with her daughter. Parameswari and Saranya locked the house as usual yesterday morning and went to work. Neighbours saw that the Parameswari's house was left open and immediately informed her about this.
Parameswari came home and saw that the lock of the house was broken and the door was left open. She found that 18 sovereigns of jewellery and 22,000 rupees in cash had been stolen which she had kept for her daughter's wedding. The Sultanpet police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Parameswari. A sniffer dog was brought and it ran a short distance from the house where the incident took place but did not point to anyone. Police are investigating to catch the culprits.
In other cases, police have arrested 5 people involved in various criminal activities in Coimbatore. The district police are actively monitoring the crime prevention activities in Coimbatore district. Five people were arrested in connection with the crime yesterday in the district in that regard. 17 people have been booked and 13 have been charged by the district police.
District SP Selva Nagarathnam said strict action would be taken against those involved in such illegal activities. The public can lodge complaints on WhatsApp at 7708 100 100. The names and details of the informants will be kept confidential.
