'Pollachi Cattle Market' reopens after two years; Over 1000 cows sold
Coimbatore: Pollachi Cattle Market is one of the renowned traditional markets in the South which is held on both Tuesdays and Thursdays of the week.
Cattle are also regularly sold from other districts of various states like Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. This has been a multi-crore trade.
The Pollachi Cattle Market was closed for two years due to the threat of Covid-19 and the construction work of the refinery station in one part of the cattle market which is spread over an area of 3 acres owned by the municipality. As a result, thousands of workers and traders who depended on the cattle market lost their livelihoods.
Traders have been demanding that the market be allowed to operate in the region.
Following the permission by the municipality to open the cattle market, the first cattle market became operational on Tuesday.
A large number of traders from neighboring states including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka as well as other districts reportedly sold over a 1000 cows in a single day. Cattle traders and workers were overjoyed that the cattle market had finally reopened after two years.
